TikTok teen skin-care routines are harmful

On average, these routines involved six products and 11 potentially irritating active ingredients, primarily chemical exfoliants like AHAs and layered actives that may damage the delicate skin of youth. Only about 26% of routines included sunscreen, posing risks for sun sensitivity and long-term UV damage. The average monthly cost was $168, with some routines exceeding $500, creating financial and emotional pressure. The content also perpetuates unrealistic beauty standards, subtly promoting “lighter/brighter” skin and perfectionism, which can negatively affect self-esteem nypost.com.
